cakes, cakes and more cakes!

Here is a strawberry cream cake I frosted with a delicious buttercream frosting. This was one of my first cakes I decorated for fun! I pre-made the swirly flowers from royal icing . Working with royal icing can be tricky - don't forget to make sure you don't share icing bags with the buttercream frosting - any contact to grease or oil will just make your royal icing melt :( - I learned the hard way...

My first tiered cake! I was super happy with how the roses and cala lilies turned out! They are my absolute favorite flowers ! I think rolling out the edges of the flowers to give it a ruffly texture and a more delicate appearance really adds to the them. I used the store made fondant from Golda's Kitchen which taste 10x better than the Wilton fondant and for 3/4 of the price!

My second tierd cake I made was a 3 tier taro flavoured cake I made for my sister's birthday. I wasn't too happy with the texture of the cake itself as it was a bit more moist than I had hoped - I will def tweak the recipe for next time :)
I really wanna try a few more 3+ tiered cake but I really just can't find enough mouths to feed or an occasion.

off to the jungle..

These wedges are just crazy, fun and wild! I can't wait to wear them out for the first time this weekend!
The first time I saw them, I just knew I had to get them.. and for only $50.00 and Spring Shoes? I really don't think I could have said no!

I couldn't find a word to describe the print.. kinda floral-ish., with some animal print and leaves going on... but my boyfriend called the print "jungle" so that is what I will forever call it.

These are definitely a statement piece, so I am thinking I'd want to pair it with something simple like a black harem pant or a black skinny or a black jumper? gold accessories? I still have a few days to decide,
I'll definitely come back and post my final outfit ;)

fondant fun!

Ready for spring?? Here is a fondant covered orange-dream cake I made using the Wilton Orange Dream Cake Recipe (http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Orange-Dream-Cake). The cake was delicious, light and fluffy with just the perfect amount of orange zing!
I used a 9 inch Wilton heart pan and Wilton fondant (the fondant wasn't too great taste-wise- other brands are much more tastier). Roses and Daisies were also made with Wilton's flower making tools. I'm beginning to sound like i'm advertising for Wilton but really.. it's the Michael's weekly 50% off coupon that's got me hooked!

This was my first fondant covered cake I made :)
